A Hundred Years From Now

2026 • 13 mins • mixed media animation, sound

Combining frame by frame animation, deconstructed cinematic images, and an immersive soundscape, A Hundred Years From Now by Arijit Debnath captures his search for the memories of his mother, activated by a celebration of Bengali cinema, poetry and music. This process of rediscovery comes together in a collaged portrait of cultural melancholia and personal grief.

Short Animations, Loops etc.

Animated deconstruction of some footage I took on my phone on a car ride through Prince Edward County.

A short animation for a collaboration with several animators, where all the animations are tied together to form an exquisite corpse.

A little flipbook animation on one of my Dad’s engineering books I had lying around.

Arijit Debnath is a Bengali-Canadian filmmaker and animator. In an experimental cinematic practice that involves a tracing of cultural and diasporic identity, he explores how personal, cultural and cinematic memory are intertwined. His current research dwells on the ever shifting nature of diasporic memory across time and space, and how cultural artifacts like cinema, poetry, and literature from one’s native home can form as portals of connection to diasporic identity.
